Head of Lower School The Lower School is not a physical place so much as a grouping of those in Years 4 - 8. They meet together for assemblies with the oldest children taking the lead in much of what goes on. It's a bigger world than the First School and to begin with pupils, whether they have joined from outside or come through within the school, are more or less based in their classroom though moving out for specialist teaching. By Year 6 they are used to getting themselves from "A" to "B" (with the organization that entails) for an increasing number of sessions. Then, in Year 7, the group doubles in size as others come to join us from schools where the leaving age is 11+. As befits the jump from "primary" to "secondary" education the scope of what is offered increases, this continuing into Year 8 with the formal teaching day now ending at 4.10 rather than 3.30pm (Yrs 4 - 6). At a level appropriate to their age the wide-ranging syllabus embraces English, mathematics, the sciences, French, Spanish, German, history, geography, art, ceramics, design technology, dance, drama, music, P-E & sport, ICT,Personal, Social and Moral Education (PSME) and religious education. This is a school with educational vision and courage.” |
