How to choose AS/A Levels PDF Print E-mail

For many of you this is difficult as you don’t yet have a fixed idea of what you want to read at university, never mind life beyond that. So our advice is to think as broadly as possible but at the same time make your own choices and ensure they are subjects you find both intellectually and academically stimulating and aren’t ones someone else thinks you should do!

What follows are notes prepared by each of our academic departments on the AS/A levels offered. There is some guidance on the qualifications and skills needed and recommendations of combinations of subjects and on to what they might lead. So we can organise the timetable, and make it possible for the widest possible subject combinations to be available, we ask you to let us know by the start of the Spring Term in Year 11 what subjects you wish to follow. From this we draw up the subject blocks. If, after GCSE results, you want to change your subjects you can provided your choices fall within the designated blocks.

Entrance to our sixth form is conditional on achieving at least six passes at GCSE at grade C or above, and you should have at least a grade B in those subjects you wish to study at AS Level. Most of you will have much more than these minimum academic requirements but we will, in exceptional circumstances, take external factors that may have affected GCSE performance into account.
