Languages are taught throughout the school. We start with an introduction to French in Reception. We add Spanish in Year 5 and then switch from Spanish to German (keeping going with French) in Year 6. To accommodate those who have joined us in the first term of Year 7, French, German and Spanish are taught on a carousel from which two languages, to be studied for the rest of that year and in Year 8, are then chosen. We infuse the curriculum with song, rhythm and movement as well as games, role-play and puppetry. Our end of year languages concert is a great (and often hilarious) tribute to the work the pupils put in.
In Years 7 & 9 pupils learn two of these languages in any one year. We use a wealth of electronic resources (blogging, podcasting, digital cameras and camcorders are our latest additions) and think we can justly claim that our language teaching is fun, technologically up-to-date and active. Then for GCSE pupils must chose one language and may chose two. Choices at A level are governed by GCSE courses followed.
We are passionately committed to what we do. We offer grammar consolidation classes and conversation classes as well as a popular foreign language film club, home-stay tuition visits to Spain & Germany in alternative years and work experience trips for A level students.
