"My Fair Lady? I've run out of superlatives."
Parental comment on the 150 strong company for this oft-staged classic
Drama is central to our life at Frensham from the earliest years. It's about performance, it's about team work, it's about a readiness to listen, it's about contributing ideas. It's about development of curiousity. It may develop into a love of acting, of script writing, of stage management. Any number of our former pupils can be seen on stage or screen or found working in and around theatre.
We teach drama formally from the earliest years. It's based around our multi-award winning Performing Arts Centre and separate drama studio though students seek out other venues to show their work in locations as varied as Main House cellars or the school minibuses. An open air performance of Midsummer Night's Dream was scheduled but the rain drove it inside thus depriving the piece of the magic of candlelit woodland but substituting (at the very last minute) an ingeniously staged indoor show.
We reckon to be an innovative and fast moving department with many companies bringing productions to the Theatre from which our pupils learn so much. We both host and visit drama festivals.
